The act of tattooing is trying for the body. To be able to tattoo it in good conditions, it is important that you are well prepared. Here are all our recommendations to best understand your tattoo session.
RECOMMENDATIONS BEFORE A TATTOO SESSION HOW TO PREPARE WELL?
PREPARE MENTALLY
Think! Your decision should be carefully considered. Indeed, although permanent tattooing is now widely accepted by society, it is a personal decision that should not be taken lightly. Find out about the subject, think carefully about your desires, the different reasons that push you into this project and ask yourself the right questions so as not to have to regret it later.
- Why do you get tattooed?
- What pattern would you like to wear?
- Is this project in line with your convictions and your personality?
- Will this tattoo cause professional discomfort?
Visualize the scenario! While you are looking forward to this day, many people arrive on D-Day a little stressed. There are several techniques you can use to reduce your anxiety before the session, among these techniques there is (conditioning).
Close your eyes, take a deep breath and visualize the scene in 3 steps. The 1st by getting a tattoo – the 2nd by being a spectator – the 3rd by moving away to see the scene from further away. Then imagine a calming setting in which you are calm and feel the tattoo, but without feeling the slightest discomfort. Imagine the feeling on the skin without the pain!
Repeat this scenario several times before your date. You will see that it will be easier to keep calm and that this will greatly reduce the pain felt during your session.
PREPARE PHYSICALLY
Eat and stay hydrated! We recommend that you eat a real meal before coming and that you are well hydrated in the 24 hours preceding your session. These recommendations are very important because they improve the quality of your skin. Healthy skin in good condition is easier to tattoo, the ink penetrates it more easily and it heals much better. In addition, your body must have enough energy to draw on reserves when it needs them in order to avoid any drop in blood pressure or any discomfort.
Recharge the batteries! Recharge the batteries!
Relax! Come relaxed to your appointment. For sensitive people
anxiety, stress or nervousness, we recommend that you avoid taking any
stimulant before the session: coffee, energy drink such as Redbull, black tea, etc.
Take care of your skin! To be able to get a tattoo in good conditions, it is imperative that your skin is clean and has no lesions or irritations. Do not apply any greasy cream or anesthetic before the appointment. Finally, remember to protect your skin from the sun, it’s a way to take care of your tattoo in advance!
Come comfortable! Wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid friction on the tattooed area.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Baby first! Given the greater risk of infection as well as the risk of skin reactions: we do not perform any tattoos on pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Be sober! Do not come under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These substances alter your blood flow and could make carrying out the project more difficult. Our tattoo artists are entitled to refuse you if you do not follow the instructions.
MORE SENSITIVE AREAS
The pain felt for a tattoo is unique to each person. However, some parts of the body are more sensitive than others. The least painful areas are: the outside of the arms, the upper back avoiding the spine, shoulders, calves or buttocks. On the contrary, the most painful areas are the ribs, neck, armpits, feet and hands. We do not recommend using numbing creams, as these may impact the accuracy of the tattoo. Keep in mind that the pain is temporary and the result will be worth it!
RECOMMENDATIONS AFTER A TATTOO SESSION
You can remove any bandage between 3 and 5 hours after your session. After getting a tattoo: do not touch your tattoo to prevent bacteria from infecting the open wound. Indeed, the first layer of skin will have been pierced to let the pigments of the ink pass through it, it will then be necessary to be careful until the healing is complete.
The healing time is individual and will also depend on the size of the tattoo, but it is generally 3 to 5 weeks. For the first few days, you will feel a sensation of heat, the skin is red and swells slightly. Then the tattoo dries and you will have a feeling of tightness. Above all, do not scratch the area and moisturize your skin as much as possible with a butter suitable for tattooing. Then your skin will begin to peel and small scabs will form. Let these scabs fall off on their own, they just indicate that your skin is regenerating. It takes about 15 days from your appointment for the superficial layer of skin to recover. However, it will be important to continue to moisturize your tattoo well, because it will take a few more weeks for the inside of the skin to be completely healed and for the ink to set permanently.
SOME RESTRICTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS TO APPLY DURING THE 1ST MONTH:
- Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo
- Clean the area well with a neutral PH soap or antiseptic lotion, 2 to 3 times a day for 3 weeks
- Prefer the shower to the bath so as not to immerse the tattoo and do not apply the jet of water directly to the freshly tattooed area. Then dry with a clean towel and dab without rubbing!
- Take care of your tattoo by moisturizing it several times a day, when you feel tightness. Massage gently to let the cream penetrate
- No makeup or adding extra cream that might clog pores and reject inks.
- Wear loose clothing that allows the skin to breathe to allow proper healing
- No swimming and avoid humid or very hot places in the 1st month (baths, swimming pools, sauna, etc.)
- Protect your tattoo from the sun! Do not expose yourself to the sun or cover your tattoo.
AND AFTER ?
Once your skin has healed well, just take care of your tattoo like you take care of your skin. This involves moisturizing your tattoo well on a daily basis and protecting it when out in the sun. It is best to apply a +50 sunscreen specially adapted for tattoos in order to preserve the color. Over time, the color and lines may acquire a slight patina, but if you protect it well, you guarantee it a good lifespan.
